How long will it take to get organized?
There are so many different variables to consider when determining how long a project will take.
First, what is your particular definition of “organized”? Do you want all your things in individually-labeled containers or do you just want to be able to see your dining room table?
Next, what are your goals? Is this organizing project for a fresh new start or is it a my- in-laws-are-coming-to-visit-in-two weeks situation? From how much time and energy you have to devote to the project, to the materials required, to the type of stuff we’ll be organizing, there’s a lot to consider before we get started.
I used to try and estimate how long projects would take, but soon learned that it’s almost impossible to be accurate. Planning ahead before starting the project and re-evaluating as we go works best.
Why is a 3-hour minimum required for in-person organizing?
I find that things always take longer than I think they’re going to, and organizing sessions are no different. Because of the travel involved on my side, and the getting started and putting away on either end of the session, three hours is an ideal amount of time to make some headway.
I have tried to get organized before. How will this be different?
We can talk about what your previous experience with getting organized was like and try to get to the root of where you ran into trouble. One of the most crucial aspects of trying to get organized with ADHD that is often overlooked is to address how your ADHD affects you. Knowing you have ADHD isn’t just a box I check. It’s a part of you that needs attention.
What should I do before our first session?
The best things you can do are get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy meal or snack, and stay hydrated. Don’t worry about buying containers or trying to pick up before our session. Save your energy and motivation for our work together!
Do I have a say in what gets thrown away?
Absolutely! I will never throw anything away without your permission. Keep in mind that any professional organizer you work with should also abide by this rule.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please give no less than 24 hours’ notice for in-person sessions.
I think someone I know needs your help. Do you offer gift certificates?
I do offer gift certificates. Gift certificates are a thoughtful gift for someone who has expressed their desire to hire a professional organizer. However, I strongly caution against buying someone an organization session because YOU think they need to be more organized. Unless they are truly motivated and ready to take this step, a gift certificate for my services would be a waste of your money and a possible insult to the recipient (think how you would feel if you received the “gift” of a makeover when you thought you looked perfectly fine!).
